Alek’s Story
Alek Skarlatos has a long history of fighting for the conservative movement and southern Oregon, including historic runs for congress, as an advocate for Oregon’s timber industry, as National Development Director for the Conservative Nonprofit the Freedom Foundation, and representing Oregon’s 4th State House District since 2025.
Prior to entering the public policy arena, Alek was an Oregon National Guardsman. He attended both Air Assault School and Sniper School, achieving the rank of Specialist. He completed a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan with the US Army National Guard’s 186th Infantry Regiment, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team in 2015.
Alek, along with four others, stopped an armed terrorist on a Paris-bound train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris in August 2015.
His heroism earned him several awards and medals around the world, including the United States’ Soldier’s Medal. In addition, he received the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour and the medal of the City of Arras, France. He starred in the 2018 Clint Eastwood’s film 15:17 to Paris, about the terrorist attack Alek helped to stop.
Alek has represented Oregon’s 4th House District since 2025 and currently serves as the Deputy Republican Caucus Leader as well the Vice-Chair of the House Committee for Economic Development, Small Business, and Trade. He lives in southern Douglas County with his wife Jessi and spends his time working his ranch.
Oregon House District 4 is made up of communities in Southern Douglas, Josephine, and Jackson Counties.
